Espresso machines have never been more capable. Touchscreens, flow profiling, guided recipes, scales that talk to the machine, graphs after every shot.
All of it works. That is the strange part. The machine gets better at making espresso and you get worse at it, because every decision that used to live in your hands now lives behind a menu. You stop watching the coffee. You watch the screen tell you about the coffee.
Espresso is a physical craft. The grind, the dose, the tamp, the way the first drops hesitate before they run. Those are things you learn by feel, over hundreds of shots, and you only learn them if you are paying attention to the right thing.
Beanie has no screen. Not a small one, not a hidden one. There is nothing on this machine to read.
Pressure is held at nine bar by a mechanical bypass, the same way it has been for sixty years. There is no profiling, no flow control, no recipe to select. One shot sequence: wet the puck, let it soak, pull. It runs the same way every time, so the only variable left is you.
The technology went into the parts you should never have to think about. Two boilers hold temperature to half a degree. The group head is heated directly, so the machine is ready two minutes after you switch it on instead of forty. Good espresso should not require planning your morning around a warm-up.

The group is a 58 mm commercial standard, which is the reason it was chosen. Every portafilter, basket, shower screen, gasket, tamper and distributor made for a café machine fits this one. Bottomless portafilters, wood-handled ones, precision baskets, puck screens, whatever you want to try over the next ten years — none of it is proprietary, and none of it has to come from us. When a seal wears out it costs a few dollars and it is on the shelf.
Lift it and water goes in. Drop it and the shot ends. You decide when, not a timer.
A glycerin-filled needle plumbed at the group, so it reads the puck rather than the boiler. Watch it climb, pause on the soak, and settle. After a week you will read a bad grind before the first drop lands.
A rotary pump, quiet and steady. You can hear the machine change note when the puck saturates.
Brushed stainless and oiled walnut. The wordmark is etched into the panel, not printed on it.
WiFi and Bluetooth are on board for one reason: software updates.
If a problem turns up in the field, it can be fixed on machines already in kitchens instead of waiting for the next revision. The same channel carries improvements as the control loops get better over time. Nothing else runs over it: no profiling, no recipes, no shot history, nothing to configure. Coffee is made with the lever, and the machine runs and stays safe whether it is connected or not.
The brain is built from scratch. Not an off-the-shelf controller with espresso settings bolted on.
Custom boards, custom firmware, written for one job: hold temperature and pressure steady enough that the same coffee makes the same shot every morning. Three heated zones, each with its own platinum sensor and its own control loop, running a hundred times a second. Brew water inside half a degree. The group head heated directly rather than waiting on the boiler. Pressure verified against the gauge on every shot, so a worn pump shows up as a fault rather than a mystery.
A second processor handles WiFi and Bluetooth, and it is kept away from anything that matters. It carries software updates and nothing else. It cannot touch a heater, a valve or the pump. If the radio dies, the machine keeps making espresso.
